Conley Marine Services To Acquire Kody Marine Shipyard

Conley Marine Services (CMS) of New Orleans announced July 19 it is acquiring Kody Marine located on the Harvey Canal in metro New Orleans. The sale includes all business and physical assets of Kody Marine.

CMS, a subsidiary of Conley Associates Inc, engineers Subchapter M-specific regulatory compliance and maintenance provisioning for the U.S. inland waterways towing industry. CMS has offices in New Orleans, St Louis and Newport News, Va.

“The sustained strong performance of Conley Marine Services as a preferred Subchapter M consultancy makes the addition of an operating boatyard facility to complement Conley’s safety, maintenance and regulatory offerings a natural evolution,” said James Conley, CEO of Conley Marine. “Full-service yards and repair facilities offering economical solutions for workboats of lighter tonnage and smaller horsepower are few in number. The effect of Subchapter M statutory inspections and ongoing maintenance requirements places tremendous budgetary pressure on fleet managers. Conley helps vessel owners achieve significant savings through optimization of consultancy, maintenance and yard services.”

CMS plans to invest in the yard’s 3-acre physical plant by upgrading the machine shop, tool room, dockside moorings, paint shed, carpenter shop and project management offices. The yard boasts a 1,000-ton drydock, two 100-ton cranes and additional equipment. Conley’s ISO 9001-2015 program will be adopted for yard quality control with oversight from Conley’s team of quality experts.

The new facility will be branded Conley Marine Maintenance & Repair. The transaction is expected to be complete by September.
