Towboat Crew Finds Body In Ohio River

Police are investigating after a towboat crew spotted a man’s body floating in the Ohio River near Kenova, W.Va.

The body was first spotted by the crew of an unnamed vessel near the 13th Street train trestle just before 9:30 a.m. May 23, according to the Kenova Police Department.

Responders set up a command post at nearby Virginia Point Park to aid in the recovery and investigation. The man was not immediately identified. Police said he was a white man and appeared to be 40 to 50 years old with red shaded hair, a mustache, a goatee and a scar on his right shin. He was wearing blue jeans, a Harley Quinn T-shirt and  a red, long-sleeved shirt. The medical examiner estimated the body had been in the river for seven to 10 days. Because of the river’s high flow rate, investigators said they had a difficult time estimating where the body may have entered the water.

Foul play was not believed to be a factor in the man’s death, police said. Investigators asked anyone with information as the man’s identity to contact Kenova police.
