Recent Dredging Contracts
Savannah, Ga.
Marinex Construction Inc., Charleston, S.C., has been awarded nearly $27 million for maintenance dredging in Savannah, Georgia, with a full amount of nearly $33.5 million.
Marinex Construction was founded in 1991 by F. Hammond Johnson. The Charleston-based company boasts two dredges, the 19-inch Hampton Roads and the 24-inch Savannah. Work is estimated to be complete by late November.
Calhoun, Texas
On August 19, Orion Marine Construction based in Tampa, Fla., was awarded over $13.5 million of a nearly $22 million cumulative contract to dredge the Calhoun, Texas, area of the Galveston International Waterway, the section of the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway that directly serves ports and industries in the Galveson area. Work will be contracted through the Galveston Engineer District.
Orion Marine has done extensive work in Galveston since its establishment in 1994, including the deepening of the Galveston Harbor to 50 feet during the Galveston Harbor Channel Expansion project, as well as raising levees at Pelican Island and improving San Jacinto DMPA levees. Three million cubic yards was dredged from the channel using the dredge King Fisher.
Work in Calhoun is expected to be completed by mid-January next year.
Brunswick, Ga.
Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Company LLC (GLDD) of Houston, Texas, has been awarded a firm-fixed-price contract for maintenance dredging in Brunswick, Ga., as well as in Morehead City, N.C. Nearly $27 million was granted with a cumulative total of more than $27.5 million.
GLDD, originally based in Chicago, boasts a fleet of more than 200 support vessels as well as five cutter, five hopper, four mechanical and three hydraulic dredges. One of the largest dredging companies in the country, GLDD is involved in extensive projects and expansion initiatives, such as the Corpus Christi Ship Channel and Improvement Dredging Project completed in 2023, the Lake Decatur Dredging Project and the Houston Ship Channel Deepening and Expansion Project.
Work is expected to be completed by mid-April, 2026, and it is being contracted by the Wilmington Engineer District.
