Speckhart Assumes Deputy Commander Role

Maj. Benjamin Speckhart was recently made deputy commander of the Vicksburg Engineer District.

Speckhart assumes the role with 14 years of experience in the United States Army. He began as an engineer officer in 2011 after receiving his Bachelor of Science in civil engineering from West Point Academy, and a Master of Science in engineering management from the Missouri University of Science and Technology. He also holds a Master of Operational Studies degree from the United States Army Command and General Staff College.

Speckhart most recently completed his assignment as the executive officer for the 16th Battalion, 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division at Fort Bliss, Texas. His past experience includes platoon leader and executive officer in the 62nd Engineer Battalion, 36th Engineer Brigade; chief of operations and assistant brigade engineer in the 1st Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division; assistant operations officer and company commander in the 326th Engineer Battalion at Fort Campbell, Ky.; division engineer of the 1st Armored Division; and battalion operations officer for the 16th Brigade Engineer Battalion, 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division. Additionally, he served in the Corps of Engineers at Fort Meade and Baltimore, Md., as project manager and project engineer.

The Vicksburg District is made up of 68,000 square miles across Mississippi, Arkansas and Louisiana, including 460 miles of mainline Mississippi River levees.
