MobileOps, Baron Weather Combine Efforts For New Offering
MobileOps and Baron Weather have announced a strategic partnership to integrate maritime weather intelligence into the MobileOps fleet management platform.
The partnership will embed Baron Weather’s high-resolution forecasts, real-time weather, river and metocean data into MobileOps, giving vessel operators access to current and forecast conditions within the same platform they use for fleet management and voyage planning. The companies said the integration is designed to support safer navigation, risk assessment and operational decision-making.
The integration will be available through MobileOps MapTracker and will include forecasts and current conditions related to winds, waves, currents, sea state, storm development, river conditions and other marine conditions. Historical weather events may also be reviewed in MapTracker.
“This collaboration is focused on adding vital weather forecasting tools to the voyage planning process and simplifying the steps to make good, safe decisions,” said David Hill, president and CEO of MobileOps.
Hill said the partnership is intended to reduce the need for operators to move between separate systems while improving decision-making.
“The best part is that it will be done within a single operational ecosystem, reducing the use of disparate systems while increasing the decision-making accuracy,” Hill said.
The companies said the integration is aimed at helping captains, dispatchers and other shoreside personnel maintain a shared view of conditions that could affect daily operations. When conditions change, alerts can notify stakeholders so they can adjust plans and reduce risk to crews, vessels and cargo.
“Partnering with MobileOps will allow operators to better assess and mitigate risk, plan activities and maintain situational awareness throughout all phases of their operations,” said Dave Hubner, senior director of maritime services at Baron Weather. “We’re excited to make customers safer and more efficient by providing a seamless solution from planning to underway to protecting the team working onboard and in the yard.”
Features of the integration include weather overlays in MapTracker, custom alerting for changing conditions and trip-planning tools to identify preferred departure windows based on forecasts and mission-specific requirements. The companies said the tools may also support safety management system requirements by giving operators more timely information for go/no-go decisions.
