Liebherr Introduces AI-Powered Parts Identification App

Liebherr Maritime Cranes has launched a new digital application designed to streamline spare-parts identification and maintenance planning for crane operators and maintenance personnel.

The application, called Parts Assistant, is available globally through Apple’s App Store and Google Play and is offered at no charge to users with a valid MyLiebherr business account. According to Liebherr, the tool was developed with input from crane operators and maintenance teams working in ports, terminals and offshore environments where rapid access to replacement parts can be critical to minimizing downtime.

A key feature of the application is its ability to identify parts through several methods, including photo recognition, QR code scanning, item-number entry and multilingual text searches. Liebherr said the app supports text searches in more than 100 languages. Users can also combine multiple search methods to verify results before placing orders.

The company said the artificial intelligence-powered recognition system is intended to address situations in which component nameplates are damaged, missing or otherwise difficult to read. Identified parts can be cross-referenced with Liebherr’s official parts catalog before an order is submitted.

In addition to parts identification, the application provides maintenance-planning support by displaying machine operating hours and upcoming scheduled service intervals. The system generates lists of recommended spare parts, consumable materials and service kits associated with the next maintenance event. Those lists can be modified by users and transferred directly into an order.

“Parts Assistant represents a next level of work simplification for our customers,” said Florian Markert, product manager for Liebherr. “By simplifying and accelerating parts identification directly on the machine, we are helping maintenance teams focus on the maintenance itself rather than the administration.”

The application also includes an “expert check” function that allows users to submit a verification request directly to their local Liebherr service partner if there is uncertainty about a component identification. The request generates a service ticket and allows maintenance personnel to obtain confirmation before ordering parts.

Liebherr reported positive feedback during a trial phase, with users citing reduced ordering errors, improved maintenance preparation and time savings. The company said development of the platform will continue as additional functionality is added.

According to Liebherr, Parts Assistant currently supports mobile harbor cranes, offshore cranes, ship cranes, deep-foundation equipment, duty-cycle cranes and crawler cranes with lifting capacities up to 400 metric tons.
