Obituary Notice: Eric Scott Frederick

Capt. Eric Scott Frederick, 45, of Cincinnati, Ohio, died May 13.

He began working on the river when he was 16 years old. He worked first for the Anderson Ferry in Cincinnati, quickly rising through the ranks from deckhand to captain. He later worked for McGinnis for about 25 years.

In his off time, he transported river cleanup barges and boats all along the western rivers for Living Lands & Waters, LLC. He also mentored others seeking their merchant mariner licenses.

“His passion for the rivers and boats was more than a career. It was his way of life,” according to his official obituary.

He is survived by his daughters: Brooklyn Barrett, Destiny Frederick, Skylar Frederick (Jeff Monahan) and Savannah Frederick; as well as his partner and mother of his children, Catrina Barrett Frederick; father, Dwight Frederick; and brothers, Marc Frederick (Brianne) and Thad Frederick (Brandy), who work in the industry for C&B Marine.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Donna Frederick; stepmother, Debra Frederick; and grandparents, Dewey and Kathleen Frederick.

Arrangements were handled by the Vitt, Stermer & Anderson Funeral Home in Cincinnati.
