Corps Of Engineers Seeks Bids For Gulf Coast Projects
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is seeking bids or reviewing proposals for several maintenance-dredging projects along the Gulf Coast, including work on the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway and navigation channels in Texas, Louisiana and Florida.
The Galveston Engineer District has an active solicitation for maintenance dredging of the GIWW between Freeport and Matagorda Bay. The base work includes approximately 959,000 cubic yards, with additional work included as options.
The project covers several reaches, including the waterway between Freeport Harbor and the Brazos River, the Brazos River Crossing and the GIWW between the San Bernard and Colorado rivers. The Corps’ Dredging Quality Management Program lists approximately 1.6 million cubic yards across the solicitation’s base and optional work.
Bids are expected to open October 6. The Corps anticipates beginning work in January and completing the project by July 2027. The work will require a pipeline dredge.
In Louisiana, the New Orleans Engineer District is seeking bids to remove shoaling from the Barataria Bay Waterway Bar Channel in Jefferson Parish. The solicitation includes an estimated 375,000 cubic yards of base dredging and as much as 100,000 additional cubic yards. Material will be placed at the Grand Terre Island disposal site. Optional work includes measures to avoid disturbance of nesting birds.
The district also has an active solicitation for the Mermentau River Bar Channel in Cameron Parish. The project calls for removing approximately 800,000 cubic yards from the channel between Mile 6.5 and Mile 1.3. Dredged material will be placed along the Gulf shoreline west of the Mermentau River jetties. The estimated contract value is between $10 million and $25 million.
The Mobile Engineer District is seeking bids for maintenance dredging of the Pensacola Harbor Entrance Channel in Florida. The Corps estimates that approximately 800,000 cubic yards could be removed. The solicitation permits the use of a cutterhead pipeline dredge, hopper dredge or mechanical dredge with scows.
The channel will be maintained to a depth of 39 feet. Suitable sand removed from the channel will be placed along Perdido Key Beach. The Corps anticipates work beginning in November and continuing into March 2027.
Bids are also under review for maintenance dredging of the Calcasieu River and Pass between Mile 5 and Mile 17 in southwest Louisiana. That project includes beneficial placement of dredged material in Sabine Refuge marsh-creation areas developed through the Coastal Wetlands Planning, Protection and Restoration Act.
The solicitations have not resulted in contract awards. Contract values, contractors and final work schedules will be established after the Corps completes the procurement process.
