Luedtke To Dredge Maumee Bay and River

Under a $2.12 million contract, Luedtke Engineering Co. began dredging the federal navigation channel in Maumee Bay in Ohio. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Buffalo District awarded the contract in April and followed with another contract in July for $787,000 to dredge the Maumee River located along Lake Erie in Toledo Harbor, in the City of Toledo, Lucas County, Ohio.

Maumee Bay dredging was from the Maumee River mouth, extending out into the Maumee Bay navigation channel. Approximately 500,000 cubic yards of material was removed.

The Maumee River dredging began in October. The contractor will dredge approximately 150,000 cubic yards of material from the lower end of the river, near the river mouth.

Toledo Harbor is a deep draft commercial harbor that shipped and received 9.4 million tons of material in 2017, through its interconnectivity with 37 commercial ports. It generates approximately $375 million in business revenue annually, and supports 7,083 direct, indirect, and induced jobs that produce over $513.2 million per year in personal income for transportation-related industries.
