Karl Senner Receives Two Awards From Reintjes

This spring, Karl Senner LLC won a pair of awards at the Reintjes Annual Sales and Service Conference. Karl Senner LLC, the exclusive sales and service representative for Reintjes marine gearboxes throughout North America, was honored for garnering the highest global order intake for Reintjes in 2024. The company also was recognized for its success in hybrid systems sales.

With its hybrid system, in addition to the main diesel input shaft, Reintjes incorporates a PTI (power take in) and/or PTO (power take off) to accommodate an electric motor and/or shaft generator to the gearbox, thus allowing for multiple operating modes depending on the situation or power needs. Karl Senner LLC also supplies the electric motor/shaft generator, VFD, hybrid control system and full electrical integration used in the hybrid system.

In PTI mode, the electric motor drives the propeller shaft for slow-speed maneuvering powered by auxiliary generators or battery power. In boost mode, the electric motor and main engines combine to deliver additional power to the propeller shaft. In PTO mode, the diesel engine turns the propeller shaft and the shaft generator to provide electric power to the vessel and/or charge batteries. Even with the hybrid system, the vessel also can operate in diesel-only mode.

“While we’ve primarily sold Reintjes hybrid systems for passenger vessel applications, we’re also seeing growing interest from inland waterway operators and the fishing fleet sector,” said Chris Senner, executive vice president of Karl Senner LLC.
