Griffth Retires From McNational After 51 Years Of Service

After more than 50 years working in the marine industry, Rick Griffith is retiring at the end of the year.

Griffith most recently served as president of McGinnis Inc., under the parent company of McNational Inc., a privately held company employing between 700 and 900 associates.

McNational Inc. has offices and facilities in South Point, Ohio; Cincinnati, Ohio; Paducah, Ky.; Charleston, Mo.; Seattle, Wash.; Hartford, Ill.; and Harahan, La. The company owns and operates 50 towing vessels and six major shipyards  providing ship repair services, towing, fleeting, fueling, terminal operations, power plant harbor service management, marine construction and engine repair services.

Griffith joined McGinnis in 1970. He has held several positions inside the organization, including shipyard foreman, shipyard superintendent and senior estimator. Griffith was promoted to vice president of hull operations in 1997 and became president in 2006.

“It’s been a good 51 years with the company, and I appreciate how everyone has worked with me over the years,” Griffith said.

CEO Bruce McGinnis has hired Bill Foster as executive director of shipyard operations for McNational, working directly underneath him. He assumes the management of all six shipyard locations. Foster was most recently self-employed at Foster Family Farm in southern Indiana. He previously worked at American Commercial Barge Line for 25 years, with most of that as senior director of engineering. He has bachelor’s degrees in engineering and marine engineering from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy and his Master of Business Administration and Management from Indiana Wesleyan University. He is a certified U.S. Coast Guard incident commander.

He has volunteered as an instructor/leader on the National 4-H Council since January 2012, focusing on shooting sports and swine.

Dwaine Stephens has been named vice president of McGinnis Inc. and Mid America Fuels. He will assume management duties for McGinnis, plus continue his management of Mid America Fuels. He has worked for the company since January 2005.
