Obituary: May Etta Cohron Hines

Mae Etta Cohron Hines, 97, of Bowling Green, Ky., died March 30 at her residence. She began as a bookkeeper at James R. Hines Corporation in Bowling Green in 1946 and two years later she married the president of Hines Inc., James G. Hines. They were married for 65 years before his death in 2013. She was the grandmother of Kent Furlong, president and founder of Hines Furlong Line Inc., and she is the namesake of HFL’s 6,000 hp. mv. Mae Etta Hines.

“My grandmother was an amazing lady who lived a very full life,” Furlong said. “She was extremely fond of the river business, and it was a significant part of her life. I have both of my grandparents to thank for ultimately passing on to me their love and passion for the river, the barge industry as a whole and the people who make it special.”
