Steiner Building Boats For Florida Marine

Steiner Shipyard of Bayou la Batre, Ala., has agreed to build up to four towboats for Florida Marine, according to Marco Angelini, business development and project manager at Steiner.

The new contract includes the construction of two 88- by 35-foot pushboats with an option for two more. Construction will begin in February 2019, with the first vessel scheduled to be delivered by December 2019 and the second vessel to be delivered March 2020.

Designed by Sterling Marine, the vessels are conventional-propulsion 2,400 hp. boats with MTU 8V4000M54 Tier III EPA certified engines and Twin Disc 54070 FS at a 7:1 ratio. They are to be equipped with 99-kw. John Deere generators.

A 100- by 34-foot towboat, also designed by Sterling Marine, is already under construction at the yard for FMT, said Angelini. The boat uses twin 3,200 hp. MTU 12V 4000M54 Tier III EPA certified engines pushing power through twin disc MGX 5600FS DR gears at a 6.56:1 ratio. The vessel will be equipped with 99 kw. John Deere generators. Delivery of the vessel is set for August 2019.

“We at Steiner are excited to announce our third contract with Florida Marine Transporters,” said Tara Steiner Marshall, “We look forward to building not only these three boats but a long-lasting business relationship with them as well.”
